Just like that, we’ve found ourselves in winter already and as our lives naturally adjust to the change in weather, so should our homes. If you are anything like us, then it’s time for full hibernation mode... We’re talking cosy nights in, tucked up on the sofa watching movies and over-indulging in delicious treats. But, in order to make your homewarm and inviting enough to rid those winter blues, here’s a few changes we suggest to create a cosy haven that’s just waiting to be enjoyed!

Switch up your colour palette
If you’re familiar with Perth Style Co. you’ll probably know by now that we care just as much about the way a home feels, as its appearance. So, come Winter time, it’s our suggestion that you make some changes to your home’s colour palette in order to create that warm, winter sanctuary we all want to relish in. Say goodbye to the vibrant pop of Summer colours and hello to rich, warm tones like terracotta, olive green and deep, midnight blue.

Introduce all the layers
Layers are a styling technique that we love to use every season but they have more of a practical purpose as the cool winter months roll around.

They are an easy solution that can be applied to almost every room of the house. Think knitted throws to your living area, plush velvet cushions to your bedroom and hints of timber or brass to your coffee table or shelving units. You will be amazed how just a few seasonal touches can make a huge difference in creating a snug, homely atmosphere.

Layers can also be applied to your floors if you have tiles, wooden floorboards or concrete flooring. Not only are these surfaces cold to walk on, they also don’t hold any heat in the home. Thus, it’s time to turn to rugs which can be applied to living or dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways to cosy-up the space.

Check in with your heat sources
Around this time of year, it’s a good time to check up on your heaters and fireplaces to ensure they’re working optimally for the coming cold months. Should you be in the market for a new heater, be sure to evaluate how often you’ll need the heater, as well as the size of the space you’re trying to heat.

For example, electric heaters are very cost effective, yet aren’t great for heating large spaces for long periods of time. Whereas gas or reverse-cycle heaters are great for heating bigger spaces and can be a little more economical.

If you’re lucky enough to have a gorgeous log fireplace, then it’s the right time to stock up on firewood, ready for a big winter. Handy hint; be sure to store in a cool, dry place to prolong the life of the wood.

Make the change to winter bedding
Lastly, come winter, it’s time to revisit your bedding situation. Gone are the light breathable summer materials - it’s time to upgrade to your heavy winter doonas to ensure you can keep the heat in over the next few months.

We suggest investing in a quality wool or feather quilt due to their ability to maximise warmth, then finish your bed off with a thick knitted throw for a beautiful finishing touch.
